The Association "Bellunesi nel Mondo"

The Association Bellunesi nel Mondo (ABM) was founded in 1966 to provide moral and cultural support and to help emigrants and former emigrants from Belluno in their search for a job. The association has more than 100 circles abroad, called Famiglie Bellunesi, and around 20 of former emigrants in the Province of Belluno, Famiglie ex emigranti, for a total of about 7.000 members all over the world, where these “Families” represent centers where to meet other people from the Belluno area and find support from them. ABM is also an important cultural association, which promotes the consciousness of the historical reasons that brought to emigration, as well as the values associated with it, in order to keep alive the sense of identity in the communities from Belluno abroad and to offer them useful tools for orientation in today’s life, in Italy and around the world.
In this sense, the association is active in several ways: it organizes language courses and classes in schools, it offers support for students who are writing their theses on the topic of migration, and promotes cultural exchange programs between the villages of the Province of Belluno and villages abroad where emigrants from Belluno live. The cultural activities organized with the migration library (Biblioteca delle Migrazioni “Dino Buzzati”) and the multimedia interactive migration museum (MiM Belluno) are also particularly relevant.
The library has a collection of about 4.000 books, mainly on topics related to emigration and immigration, but there is also a section dedicated to local history, which aims at promoting the conservation and disclosure of the values and traditions of the Belluno area. In addition, the library organizes book presentations, meet the author, and conferences on migration and local culture in general.
The MiM Belluno is an unconventional museum where you can learn about one of the phenomena that has most changed our history, as well as still being a current events issue, namely that of migration.
The MiM is a multimedia museum with captions, photos, videos and several video-interviews of immigrants and emigrants. It also offers a virtual guide on three tours of 30, 60, and 120 minutes: this way people can enjoy the museum by themselves without missing out on the explanations a “real” guide would normally deliver. Moreover, the MiM organizes several activities for schools, such as didactic workshops, thanks to which students have the chance to get more familiar with the theme of migration.
ABM has been publishing for 50 years a monthly magazine “Bellunesi nel Mondo”, which combines news and articles on the topic of emigration with others about local issues and events coming up.
Particularly important for the association is Bellunoradici.net, the social network of the Bellunesi who stood out in Italy and all over the world. In fact, the network aims at facilitating contacts with successful people in order for them to share their ideas, experiences, and useful information with the rest of the community. Furthermore, firms can register as well, encouraging synergy with local companies.
Bellunoradici.net is a very useful tool for students, too. By registering in the “Campus” section, students who are looking for advice and information can interact directly with the network members, including partner companies, and therefore start planning their future career better.
