The Alta Via No. 5 is about 90 km long, it has 7 legs and connects Sesto Pusteria (BZ) with Pieve di Cadore (BL).
This trail is dedicated to the extraordinary painter Titian, who took his inspiration for the backgrounds of some of his paintings from this area. And it is no coincidence that this trail ends up in Pieve di Cadore, the great painter’s birthplace, where visitors can visit his family home.
This stunning trail takes in four Dolomite mountain groups and is recommended for experienced hikers, especially when it comes to tackling the Marmarole area. Here chamois are still the kings of the mountain and any difficulties in the climb are compounded by the isolated location, the scarcity of water and mist which can come down quickly.
More experienced hikers can also take alternative paths along via ferrata or climb to the summits of some of the most famous peaks in the various mountain ranges.
