The Alta Via No. 4 is about 85 km long, it has 6 legs and connects San Candido in Val Pusteria (BZ) with Pieve di Cadore (BL).
The Alta Via No. 4 is dedicated to Paul Grohmann, the first climber to conquer the Dolomite giants: Tre Scarperi, Croda dei Baranci, Cima Grande di Lavaredo, Cristallo, Sorapiss and Antelao.
This trail is extremely interesting not only for the beautiful places it goes through, but for their historical relevance, as the eight Dolomite mountain ranges it crosses are among the most famous in the Alps.
The environment is wild and silent, perfect for anyone who loves peace and quiet. The trail also takes walkers to the lovely Lake Misurina, the largest natural lake in Cadore covering 12 hectares.
The Alta Via No. 4 consists of paths and mule tracks which are clearly signposted, in good condition and equipped when necessary. The only stretch along the itinerary where a certain amount of climbing experience is needed, is the section from the Vandelli refuge to the Comici hut.
More expert climbers can enjoy challenging technical alternatives to the classic route should they wish.
