MUSAL – Albino Luciani Museum

The Albino Luciani Museum “MUSAL”, which officially opened on 26th August 2016, is located in a 15th century mansion, next to the San Giovannni Battista parish church in Canale d’Agordo in the Belluno province. The permanent exhibition aims not only to tell the life and teachings of Pope John Paul I but much more. Albino Luciani’s true greatness is also revealed through an understanding of the historical and social context in which he was born and raised: the traditional Pieve di Canale d’Agordo, which let his vocation mature and defined the personality of this universally loved pope.
You will discover the history of Valle del Biois and learn about the life of some of the important people from the valley, distinguished for artistic, cultural and religious accomplishments. You will know the history of the Luciani family and the life of the young Albino from childhood to his episcopal consecration, since his appointment to Bishop of Vittorio Veneto (1958-1969), Patriarch of Venice (1969-1978) and Pope (on 26th August 1978), till to his death in Vatican on 28th September 1978.
