The accessible viewpoint of Plan de Corones / Kronplatz lies at an altitude of 2275 metres and tourists flock here due to its exceptionally panoramic location. It is a cone-shaped mountain of volcanic origin which stands alone, separating the Pusteria valley from the Marebbe valley. The panorama from the top is truly spectacular. It has a 360° view over the World Heritage peaks: Sass de la Crusc, Marmolada, Sella, Puez-Odle, Sass de Putia, Fanes Sennes Braies and Croda del Becco, as well as the Brunico valley and the Vedrette in the Aurina valley.
The summit is flat and has many amenities: it can be reached from both the Pusteria valley and the Marebbe valley using one of the many ski lifts, there are two mountain huts and three restaurants, public toilets and plenty of sports (freeriding course) and recreational (kids’ playground and the giant Skyscraper swing) activities. There are also several interesting cultural places to visit including the Concordia 2000 Peace Bell, the Schützenkapelle chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian, the Messner Mountain Museum Corones which explores the world of mountaineering and LUMEN, the museum of mountain photography.
