Puez Mountain Hut
The Puez Mountain Hut lies above the village of Colfosco, in a small grassy valley on the Puez plateau, looking onto the Gardena Valley. Built in 1889 by Alpenverein, it became property of the Bolzano section of the Italian Alpine Club after WWI. The management was given to the alpine guida Pietro Costa in 1940, and later to his son and daughter. After the Puez Hut could no longer cope with the crowds and the demands of modern mountain tourism, the CAI built a new, larger refuge nearby. On 8 August 1982, the new Puez Hut was opened in the presence of the then Italian President Sandro Pertini. Since 2024, the Puez Hut has been run by Costa Denis, the grandson of Pietro Costa. The mountain hut is located on Alta Via no. 2 and no. 8. It is the ideal starting point for numerous excursions and climbs.
